Oracle Cloud: Create Instance from Existing Backup on Cloud

  In this article we will show you how to create an instance from existing backup of other domain. To do this, we have some prerequisites:

  • There must be a backup on Storage Container from existing instance.

  • We need Database ID of an existing instance.

  • We need wallet key of an existing instance.

  I already have one backup configured on the existing instance (highlighted below)

  You would also need wallet encryption key from server.

  Make sure you have FTP (filezilla) installed on your local machine as this would be required to zip the folder.

Note: $ORACLE_BASE/admin//tde_wallet is default location.

Oracle Database Cloud Service

Log in to the "" page to create a new service following the enlisted steps.

  • Select a service name of your choice

• Select “” as the subscription type

  • Provide SSH Public Key

Oracle Database 11g Release 2

• Select “” as the Software Release

Enterprise Edition

• Select “” as Software Edition

  • Select Billing Frequency of your choice

  • Click on Next to proceed

Under

  • Select Compute Size (OC3 – 1 OCPU, 7.5 GB RAM min required configuration)

  • Select a time zone

Database Configuration

Under

  • Select Usable Database Storage (25 GB minimum)

  • Provide Administration Password (this would be used as the sys password)

  • Select a DB Name (SID)

Now, you need to select the “” as Yes.

On selecting the “” to Yes, following options would open up

  • Database ID

  • Upload zipped TDE (the one which was zipped using FTP)

  • Cloud Storage Container

  • Cloud Storage Username

  • Cloud Storage Password

  Finally, check the configuration and click on "Create". This will to create our cloud database.

  After a few minutes, clone cloud database will be created successfully.

We click on the service name () to open the main page of database.

  Now, open two different instances of “Putty” executable.

  Connect SSH to both the machines as shown below

Once the connection is made, check the “” on each server.

  It is advised to create a dummy table for before taking the backup. This Dummy table would be used for the testing purpose.

  After cloning, it must be exist in cloned database.

  So now you know, it is very easy to create a Clone database in the cloud from a different storage location.
